I'm going to start hCG next week. I'm planning to do 175 IU a day for 40 days, taking every Sunday off.

    I have two questions:

    1) Does the problem with hCG hair loss affect men too? I heard some talk of it being due to female hormones, but it sounds more like a side effect of a VLCD to me.

    2) Do many men experience gyno while doing hCG diets? Some places says it is a common side effect, while others list it as rare. I have a prescription for Arimidex to counter the increased estrogen if it does crop up, but would that keep me from absorbing the hCG?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome...first off, I am not a guy, but there are several of them on here, so hopefully they will chime in too. The hair loss is due to the low protein, and many folks take biotin supplements to help with it...and supposedly it always grows back. Also, not everybody has hair loss....I didn't.

Re gynecomastia....which is what I think you are referring to.....I haven't heard too much about men having that. The amount of hcg we take is not that significant. Body builders take 5000 iu in a shot to counteract testicular atrophy from steriods...and I think the gynocomastia is more of an issue with single injections of that size. But....hopefully some of the guys will chime in :)). I will say....as a woman......I DID NOT get any such boost....LOL ,. and it would have been welcomed....:)))) LOL

I just completed a 25 day vlcd and I experienced neither one of those symptoms, however I was using hhcg, not injections.

My husband has done two long rounds and has had NO issues whatsoever. :-)

Are you doing your injections IM (in muscle) or Subq (in fat)?

I'm planning to do them Subq, as (to me, anyway) it seems like it'd be better for it to get released slowly.

Has anyone had luck with increasing the calories a bit? I am tall (6'2") and I have a large frame, so 500 calories for me is much less than 500 calories for an average size woman. I was thinking of eating 800 or 1,000 a day, just to be on the safe side. I burn + 4,000 calories a day, according to the online calculators, so it doesn't seem unreasonable. Just want to make sure I get enough protein.

According to Pounds and Inches, you will pull what you need from your fat. You're not really living on 500 calories like it seems. I would try the regular protocol first and then add some protein if you need to. Don't borrow trouble until it hits you though. :-) My son was 320, 6'7" with shoulders like a linebacker. He's HUGE. And he had no trouble.

Thanks, Colleen. I guess I will try it at 500 and hope for the best.

I'm a 6' tall woman with a large frame and I did fine. There are at least 2 other 6' tall women and they have done fine too. As Colleen said, the hcg releases about 3000 cal per day of your fat...so you should be fine. Just make sure you don't get hungry while on the protocol.

I'm 5'11 and on P2VLCD8 and thus far have no side effects to anything, so far I lost 15 lbs.

    Good Luck!
