Never be afraid what your doctor will think. This is your child and you know when something is wrong. If it is a viral infection of some sort, it is common that he would not run a fever. Just try to keep him hydrated. Even let him hold an ice cube in his mouth to keep a little fluid going. Sometimes that works better than trying to drink. Poor guy! These viruses are tough and sometimes there is little a doctor can do. If he is not losing weight and seems to be healthy otherwise try not to worry too much. If you are not satisfied with what the doctor tells you, you have every right to keep pushing, maybe ask for a gastroenterologist consult for him.

    I'm caidan.ice's daughter.

My mom and brother are on there way, now. throwing up too much to leave before. he does not have a fever. he has lost 5 lbs since three weeks ago. is dizzy and disoriented when he stands up, but mom says he isnt dehydrated from all she can tell.

thanks for trying to help my mom. we are all worried. dont worry about mom being intimidated by doctors, she intimidates them! i get out of her way when she is on a mission or something is wrong. love her to pieces, but dont mess with mom, i've seen her in action!

i will try to keep you guys updated. i have to go to work.

....actually diabetes was my other thought....didn't want to mention that but it is why I suggested the blood work. The thirst can be a reaction to too high of a glucose level, and that combined with nausea and fatique tend to be how it presents in kids.....BUT, throwing up every couple of hours can also make you quite thirsty. Pinch the skin up on the top of his hand, and if it stays "tented", he is dehydrated and needs fluids. Walmart has little mini glucometers for like $9, the strips for them for another 10 bucks, or whole kits for about $29.99. I bought one just to monitor my own glucose levels while on p2...its not a bad idea to have one around the house. Just a thought :)).

Re the virus I was telling you about...the main symptoms are fatigue and vomiting...no real fevers or body aches. So, the long and the short of it all here is...it is more than likely just a virus....but he needs to be checked out and have blood work done to check for glucose, electrolytes, and white blood cell counts. I think pedialyte is an excellent idea...I would go easy on adding the salt to water...because it can be nauseating...and you don't need more of that! Offer some saltine crackers...the soda helps settle the tummy, and he would get extra salt that way. Also, the BRAT diet...bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. Supposed to be easy on the tummy. Let us know what the doctor says....you were in my thoughts alot today....hang in there. :)

    Shiloh here,

his skin would not tent at all. went down real fast. she is worried about the diabetes, but doesnt freak out or anything.

we tried crackers, rice, and homemade chicken soup - the broth, and pedialyte. sometimes it stays down, sometimes it doesnt. he threw-up yesterday afternoon and then seemed fine, but by bedtime it was full on.

thats the weird part. sometimes he throws up and seems fine, other times it wipes him out.

I will let you know how it goes, or mom will when they get back.

    Shiloh here,

they sent my brother for an x-ray. there is a mass in his abdomen. he went to the bathroom every day for the last three days and it wasnt diarreha, so they dont think its a stool blockage.

they have ordered a full blood panel. the doctor is concerned about type 1 diabetes, but also wants to find out what the mass is. if the x-ray doesnt tell them for sure or if its a definite growth, they will do a CT, i think she said. so, we still dont know, but at least they are trying to find out. they ruled out leukemia, and thyroid problems, the doctor is going to call tonight after she talks with the radiologist.

they dont believe its a virus. said they are fairly sure that isnt it. they took some of his vomit to run test and his stool too.

thats all we know. mom said to say thanks to everyone. i want to thank you all too. please keep hoping he will be alright.
