wilder5...........I am sorry to hear about your cousin. That is really scarey. Was she perfectly healthy before starting the protocol? I hope she will recover 100% from this. I have had 2 friends that did strict, low fat, low cal. diets that had gallbladder issues, and surgery after losing their wt. But neither were using hcg. Just very strict dieting.
I had to have emergency gall bladder remvoval 2 years ago and had NO warning. One day I just got incredbibly sick as if I had food poisoning, ended up in the ER and out it came.
I know you can have problems from a diet too high in fat, although that wasnt the case with me.
The gallbladder problems likely stem more from the extended use of a very low fat low cal diet than the HCG specifically. Studies have shown that being on a very low fat low cal diet for a long stretch at a time increases the chances of gallstones by about 50 percent. (The length of their study was 6 months, so a lot longer than the 23-40 days that the protocol calls for.) I think that's one of the reasons why it's important to take the breaks that Simeons calls for in between. You are risking problems a lot more if you keep on the 'diet' part for extended periods, and don't go through P3 and P4 also. Your gallbladder does need to be doing something in order to stay healthy.
My cousin is now at home after nearly 3 months in the hospital. She is doing much better. And yes, the gallbladder issues are related to the low fat issue. I am on P2. I have my blood checked by my PCP every month. She is monitoring me while I am on the diet. I want to be safe. My most recent labs showed my protien levels were low. Not sure if the 3 oz of protein twice a day are cutting it for me. Have any of you heard about taking Coconut oil to alleviate gallbladder symptoms? (My cousin was nearly killed by a bull as a child and that is why she has only one kidney - nothing to do with the diet!)
