An ND friend recommended Retin A for wrinkles. I thought i would order some with my hcg order. Anyone ever use it? I noticed it comes in tubes. Is it one tube per day?

She said to start with .25 and work your way up. I should probably see a doctor bc i have no idea when i'm supposed to work my way up. Any ideas?

Beestly - I've used it, in the tubes. The .25 must be the strength of the concentration. I think mine was the same. But no, you don't use a tube a day.

Start with an amount the size of the end of a pencil eraser for your whole face. Only use this amount once a day. See how you do on that for 4-5 days. Your skin might get red and tender. If so, back off to one eraser size every other day or so. If you still get red or tender (resembles a bad sunburn), then try mixing that amount with equal amt of face cream and try that for a few days.

The retin-A will make your face peel (again like a sunburn aftereffect). It is getting rid of that outer layer to reveal new, smoother skin underneath. But before it gets to the new skin part, and if you are prone to getting blemishes, it may cause your skin to erupt in pimples. This is all part of its intended process, believe it or not. The retin-A will pull out any blemishes that have been forming below the surface, make them surface, and sluff (sp?) them off. THEN, you'll get the new skin and it will look GREAT.

I was never prone to pimples so didn't get that part, but did peel a lot, depending on how regularly I used it. It's like a super exfoliator.

Thank you Joy! I have sensitive, fair skin so would probably start with less.

I've been doing some reading and the flaky, red stage sounds awful! Maybe i'll do that over the holidays when we're stuck at home. Some people don't do well with it sounds like. Also, you can't use it anywhere near your eyes? I would like to use it on my laugh lines.

I would rather see a doctor for this one. Wish they weren't so expensive :(.

I didn't see a Dr. for this. In fact, I got a bunch of tubes across the border on a day trip to Mexico one time, without prescription. A good dermatologist can prescribe something with retin-A in it that is mixed with face cream, but I figured I could mix that myself...and so did.

As for the eyes, that's WHY I wanted to use it. Once other users reported that they used it around the eyes all the time, then I did too. I think it is the usual precautionary warning, because you don't want to get it IN the eyes! It is strong stuff and could damage the eyeball. But using it for the wrinkles or creases around the eyes didn't cause me any problems.

You're right, the flaky, red stage is yukky, but if you back off and take it slowly, you can minimize this affect and control it. The whole process may take weeks or even months, depending on how bad your skin is to start with.

I've been using Retin-A for a long time now, supposed to prevent wrinkles and I have high hopes... Beestly, don't be afraid of it - it's amazing stuff but it has to be respected! Anyhow, yes you will most likely peel the first couple weeks you use it if you use it every day. Best way to start, use every other night - like Joy said, about the size of a pencil eraser. Make sure your skin is clean and dry when you put it on, otherwise you will have increased irritation. Top it off with a good moisturizing night cream and if you tan, cover your face as it makes you more prone to burning. Use a sunscreen cream or makeup in the daytime if you are out in the sun at all. If you start peeling, that's not bad, means it's doing what it's supposed to do. Just scrub your face gently with a washcloth - those microfiber ones are great for this, and load on the moisturizer. Once the peeling passes it will reveal smoother better skin - promise! It's cheap through your HCG pharmacy source isn't it? I believe Retin-A is the best option for anti aging and wrinkle repair that doesn't cost a fortune.

Woohoo, you guys have me all excited. I really trust the ND who recommended it.

ADC has 20 tubes for $2. I don't know if that's $2 per tube or $2 for all, either way sounds affordable to me.

Definitely going to order some, thanks for the tips. I've also been reading some wrinkle cream blogs (you know you're in your 40s when...) and Elite Skin serum and V-covery and other stuff seems to be highly rated and not crazy expensive. I'm going to try that too i think. Maybe i'll get a new face for Christmas.

Lucky & Beestly - so glad you talked about the sun exposure Lucky, as I completely forgot to warn Beestly of that. Beestly, the sun exposure is such an important aspect of this Retin-A treatment. Just 5 min is enough to cause a problem in any sun. I live in Seattle where it is rarely a problem but depending on where you are, you really need to load up on good sunscreen and wear a brimmed hat in the sun.

I read somewhere that the word "serum" in a skin product means it just sits on top of the outer skin layer whereas a moisturizer will penetrate. Go for anything that will penetrate!

Oh, and $2 per tube is a fantastic price, but watch for the concentration strength!

Thanks Joy! I'm outside of Portland, so not much to worry about right now, although i will add a moisturizer with a sunscreen in it, which i never ever wear normally. I have a lot of sun damage from growing up fair-skinned in Texas before the days of sunscreen.

It's $2 for a 20 gram tube, which is amazing. I might start with the micro bc it's supposed to be gentler and my skin tends to be sensitive.

Beestly - small world...I, too, grew up in Texas before the days of sunscreen. Yep, trying the micro first is a good idea. Horns did ok in that last second this wk.end, huh? Geez. (Can you tell I went to UT?)
