Thanks for explaining the situation Annette. I am a nurse anesthetist...ironically for open heart surgery. I place and use those catheters all the time :). How is your husband holding up with all this going on around him? Tell him we are all praying that a perfect match heart is found for him quickly.

When I was in anesthesia training, one of my patients was in true need of a new heart too. They found one in time, but at the last minute the heart didn't meet the criteria for transplant. We had the patient all ready to go under anesthesia, and everything when this happened. The surgeon told the patient not to worry, he would find another heart. We took him back to the OR the next day, the surgeon had found another heart....and it was an even better match than the first one. I believe there is a great heart out there for elmer too!!! And his surgeon will find it with God's help. Hang in there and keep us posted, ok?

Everyone - you will never ever know how much I/we appreciate all your love, prayers & the financial support. I can't even begin to explain it to you! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It has been a VERY rough day today. Elmer's pressures went back up & they are playing around with meds right now to try to bring them back down. There is so much going on around us right now we don't konw what to do but pray.

Barb - Then you know all to well what were going through right now!!! He is going to 1A if they can get the pressures back down by later today & now they are talking about an LVAD while we wait for the heart. This was something that we have been trying hard to avoid so it is a little hard right now. He seems to have declined fast but without a lot of symptoms which is why we were thrown for such a loop yesterday. Weight wasn't up at all, just a little hard time breathing with minimal exertion I had noticed a little swelling in the abdomen the past week but since the weight wasn't up & he wasn't going into CHF we were not to concerned. With a maximum 5 year life expectancy we were warned he could be doing fine one day & then plummet downhill the next. That is exactly how it went. Today I'm having a really rough day with all this but I really have no choice but to be strong right now for my husband. A lot of prayer going on that is for sure! Thank you for all your love & support!!!
