    Sure you can use the tricep! :) And it doesn't hurt at all... this and the bicep are 2 of the best sites for short needle IM injections. 1/2" will do the trick just fine. Check out this site, click on any muscle group on the left to show an example of injections in that group... great pictures, its a big help

    I know this is an old thread, but thought that site might help some. Oh, and if you're worried about vessels, simply aspirate (as you always should anyway!!)

    ETA: also click on the INFO tab above the muscle groups... it has great info on needle sizes, and detailed step by step instructions for safe injecting (in fact it says 5/8" are often used for tri and bi injections)

    I have injected successfully in my deltoid with a 1/2", but others haven't. I was about 40 pounds overweight at the time (i'm on break right now) but i am tall and my arms are fairly toned.

    yeah, same here Beestly... I used my 1/2" in the deltoid until my 1" arrived. I also used the 1/2" in my tricep and bicep... again, maybe depends on if arms are toned enough or not?
