    Ketosis, put simply, is the second part of the process that takes place when your body's metabolism shifts from getting energy from carbohydrates to taking it from fat. When it is taking place, this is the time that you lose the most fat. The name ketosis relates to the blocks fat that are stored for release as energy, which are known as ketones.

    Ketosis shouldn't lead to a loss of muscle tissue, unless you are completely out of fat.

    Ketosis only happens during carb starvation. If you are eating your fruit, you most likely won't hit ketosis anyway.

    Hi everyone-

    Just wanted to let you know that I eat both my fruits everyday and test my ketosis and it is always purple.

    I was on a previous diet where we had to test the ketosis everyday (metabolic diet) and we were supposed to keep it at a lighter pink color. Dark purple meant we weren't drinking enough water.

    There are some other posts on this forum about ketosis being is what is causing the bad breath and cotton mouth etc. So it seems like many people are in ketosis on the hcg diet?

    Any thoughts?

    Yes you would be in ketosis during P2 because we are burning the unwanted fats even though we are getting carbs from the fruits and vegeys.. we are burning way more fat due to the hcg...I believe that Dr. S didn't make a big deal about it because it was a natural process that would automatically happen....when you burn fat as energy Ketosis happens...Also I think Dr Adkins may have figured out the ketosis part and thats where he came up with his plan but without the hcg there was no reset of the bodies metabolism with just the high protein low carb food plan...anyway just my opinion and I've been in Ketosis the whole time.....interesting water concept I will test that idea but for me in the past that hasn;t seemed to matter....

    I am never in ketosis on P2. I eat both fruits and that keeps it away for me but evidently some of you are in ketosis with that many carbs. I have to have under 15 carbs to get into ketosis and it's always been that way for me.

    Colleen, you might be in ketosis, but your body is so efficient at using ketones for energy that you are not throwing off any in the urine. That is actually an ideal state to be in, even if you eat no carbs except dense veggies.

    No I'm not in ketosis. I can always tell. My breath isn't bad either. It's easy to tell. :-)

    You must consume atleast 20 carbs or lower to get into DEEP ketosis and sometime that doesn't work! I have never experience ketosis while eating fruit.

    I'm in Ketosis and I still have an apple a day. when I do have my apple it puts me into the small range. When I don't have my apple it puts me in the moderate range. I drink waaaayyyyy too much water to ever get into the large range. I'm happy about that.
