I've read in Dr Simeon's manuscript that you can be on birth control while following his protocol but I have not been able to find any information regarding a Mirena IUD which releases hormones over a 5 year span. Does anybody know?!?!?

SKS, I would ask the doctor who placed the IUD, but my guess is that it is probably OK. Generally hcg for dieting does not cause problems with hormones for birth control, but your doctor is the utimate authority on it.

I, too, have a Mirena IUD and have lost 17 lbs so far on the diet, and haven't had any strange side effects or anything, so I'm guessing the IUD isn't a problem.

I have a Mirena IUD as well and I've lost 27 lbs. total. My first round was only about 2 months after having it installed and the hcg made me spot more but this round I haven't had any problems with it at all.

Are any of you using any back up birth control? My daughter also has the mirena. A few times I have read something vague about needing back up (for ANY b/c while on protocol) but cant find anything conclusive.

I'm using Mirena and am doing this diet. No side effects, and I'm losing fine. (Aside from one bumpy week.)

I have the Mirena and lost 22lb on a 23 day round. The only complaint I have is that I have had bleeding since I started. It stops for a few days and then starts right back up again!

I have it too and yes I use a back-up. I was informed that hcg can alter the effectiveness of your bc. I'd rather be on the safe side. I mean I did get the IUD for a reason. And getting preggo with an IUD in is def not a safe thing.

Sorry to post again but I was thinking.... I know it has been said that hcg does not affect the hormones and bc but I have to wonder. Many of the women who posted here said that they had some sort of bleeding or spotting or something while using hcg ( including me) so would we have to think that the hcg is in fact affecting our hormones (natural and the ones produced by the IUD). Just a thought.

I too have the Mirena. And I have been bleeding for the last 3 weeks. It will stop a day or 2 here and there and then right back up. Nothing major though so I am not worried.
