I wanted to give you an update on my short break. I did 23 days of SL hcg and then stopped it and then did 72 more hrs. of the vlcd and am now taking a short break of about 7-11 days. I am so glad I decided to do this. I am feeling so much better and stronger. I am also enjoying the P3 type food even though I am not officially in P3. I am eating around 2000 cal. a day. I am eating 2 fruits and 2-3 veggies a day and my weight is stable. I did try one new food that caused me problems...Julian Bakery Smart Carb Bread (www.julianbakery.com). It is from sprouted grains and SUPPOSEDLY when grains become sprouted, they become a veggie. (Someone forgot to tell my body this little tidbit apparently!) I showed a one lb. gain. I am still in my safety zone, but I want that pound off of me and will do an egg day correction day tomorrow to take care of that problem. The thing I am excited about is that my body is accepting the fruits and veggies. As some of you know, I had become very carb sensitive by following the Atkins Induction Phase in 3 of my rounds during P3 and have been retraining my body to accept carbs ever since I realized I had created a nightmare for myself. So, this is very exciting for me. I am also excited that when I am ready to go back on the hcg and the vlcd, that I do not have to load. I just resume the hcg and the diet...so NO GAIN. I am also excited to see if this break jumpstarts my losses like it has for so many others. I will keep you posted.

    Linda,

    Congrats!
And THANK YOU SOooooo very much for sharing about this.
After doing Atkins many many times, I thought I was just one of the "unlucky" ones who couldn't tolerate more than 20 carbs a day (from the first time I did it). NEVER had it entered my mind, that I may have done this to myself by going overboard (I tend to get obsessive over things-you should see my excel spreadsheet planning out my rounds, each round in specific detail weight-wise, to my goal weight.)

After reading about you retraining your body, I realized I was setting myself up for the same nightmare. Currently I'm on R1, D30 using SL-self mixed. With my first stall, I cut out both fruits and both breadsticks. My ketostix went purple (80 = Large). Because of your lesson, I started adjusting to retrain my own body. (With fresh HCG on day 23 it went to 160 for 3 days)
When I was again losing weight, I added 1 fruit (orange) for 3 days with no "setback" in spilled ketones or weight loss. Then I added 1 breadstick to the 1 fruit for 3 days, again with no setback. Next I added the 2nd breadstick (with the 1 fruit) for 3 days with lowered ketones @ 60, in between large and moderate. When I added the 2nd fruit (apple), getting back to full protocol, ketostix went down to 40 = moderate (with 32 carbs!). From other posts, I understand that's where it should to be. I have 13 more days on Phase 2 (10 with HCG).
Hopefully, I can keep my mindset in the correct place. I'll be following Bob's "How to reintroduce foods" for my first Phase 3 because I don't want to go too crazy. I'll be doing a full 6 weeks in between. Kind of a "trial run" for "real life" & maintenance (I stink at maintenance - whatever the diet. But that's changed with this protocol. I am now a SUCCESS at weight maintenance!) If I do well with these first 6 weeks, I may shorten it to 3 weeks on the next round. (0.75 lbs per day=30 lbs per round & 0.50 lbs per day=20 lbs per round. With 94 lbs to lose -from the beginning, it's 74 lbs now- that's 3.13 to 4.7 rounds to go - see, I told you I was obsessive about things. . .)

This is a long-winded, but sincere THANK YOU for bringing this to my attention.
Your pain has been my gain.
Finally, I am old enough to learn from the lessons of others instead of insisting on going to the SOHK (school of hard knocks)!
    THANK YOU
    THANK YOU
    THANK YOU

    Donna,

I am so glad that my posts about carb sensitivity helped you. I am happy that your body is responding to your retraining.
